Sorting by color is an early way of grouping things that are alike. It takes about 8 minutes and uses a few bowls, colored things: blocks, toy cars, clothes.

How to play

You need: a few bowls, colored things: blocks, toy cars, clothes.

  1. Put out a bowl for each color.
  2. Drop one red thing in the red bowl and one blue thing in the blue bowl.
  3. Let your child sort the rest.
  4. Name the colors as they go in.

Builds: thinking and problem solving and language and talking. Sorting by color is an early way of grouping things that are alike.
