How to play

Sink or float?2 year olds · about 10 minutes

You need: a tub or big bowl of water, a spoon, a plastic lid, a sponge, a big wooden block, a towel.

  1. Fill a tub with a little water and lay a towel underneath.
  2. Hold up one thing and ask "Will it sink or float?"
  3. Drop it in and watch.
  4. Sort them into a "sink" pile and a "float" pile.

Builds: thinking and problem solving and language and talking. Guessing and then trying is your child's first science experiment.

Safety: Stay within arm's length the whole time. Young children can drown in an inch or two of water, so pour the water out as soon as you finish.
